The Mexican National Team will play its second game of the Octagonal Eliminatory this Sunday against Costa Rica and will do so with four new players: Julio César ‘Cata’ Domínguez, Andrés Guardado, Carlos Rodríguez and Jesús Manuel ‘Tecatito’ Corona.

Although Gerardo Martino remains at rest, due to his eye operation, it was the national coach who put together the ’11’ for this day, since he is in direct contact, by telephone, with his first assistant, Jorge Theiler, who will direct both the match against Costa Rica and Panama, both on foreign soil, in the absence of Martino.

Perhaps the name that stands out the most in the Mexican National Team is that of Julio César Domínguez, since the experienced Cruz Azul defender had not participated with the Tricolor for several years.

The ‘Cata’ had not returned to the Mexican National Team since the call of ‘Tuca’ Ferretti, in 2018, for a couple of friendlies against Argentina.

Likewise, the return to ownership of the ‘Tecatito’ Corona is not surprising, given that the Porto player is a regular on the team led by Gerardo Martino.

Corona was not present in the last match against Jamaica, because he reported late with El Tri, presumably because he was solving things related to his contract with the Blue Dragons.

For his part, Andrés Guardado will return to his usual place in the Mexican National Team, since he is another of the undisputed starters in the Aztec team.

The ‘Little Prince’ came on as a substitute against the Jamaicans, because Gerardo Martino preferred to reserve him in the first half to have him ready for Sunday’s game.

In the case of ‘Charly’ Rodríguez, he will return to the starting lineup with ‘Tata’ Martino, after his participation in the last Olympic Games and coming on as a substitute against Jamaica.

In this way, they would be low compared to the previous match, Jorge Sánchez, Luis Romo, Sebastián Córdova and Roberto Alvarado.
