LAUSANNE — The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected an appeal by an American teenager to be able to sign with Ajax in the Netherlands.

The Dutch club indicated that the CAS confirmed FIFA’s decision to veto the signing of John Hilton for violating the regulations on transfers of minors.

Hilton, now 15 and known as «Xuxuh,» played for Chivas USA and was in the sights of Manchester City before his family moved to the Netherlands in 2015.

Hilton appealed to CAS after a FIFA judge rejected a request by the Dutch federation to register his transfer.

FIFA regulations prohibit players under the age of 18 from being transferred internationally, with certain exceptions for specific circumstances, including a player’s family changing countries for non-sporting reasons.

Ajax claimed he had nothing to do with the Hilton family’s move, but FIFA and CAS rejected his argument.
