Suspected Listeria in «Bavaria blu» soft cheese

Listeria bacteria were found in a product from a Bavarian cheese dairy. As a precaution, the company is now recalling two batches. The bacteria can be dangerous in pregnancy and for the elderly.

Bergader Privatkäserei GmbH warns of Listeria in soft cheese with blue mold – the product «Bavaria blu Der Würzige 300g» with the best before date August 29, 2022 and the code «4006402020550» is affected by the recall. Batches 0102 and 0140 are affected. As a precaution, the product will be removed from the range, as the company announced.

According to the manufacturer, the affected cheese was sold in Germany and Austria.

«During an internal routine check, Listeria was found in a sample during monitoring. No listeria could be detected in the end products. However, it cannot be completely ruled out that the end product may contain Listeria,» the company said.

Listeria can be a trigger for stomach and intestinal diseases

The bacterial germ Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe stomach and intestinal diseases. Listeria disease usually manifests itself within 14 days after infection with diarrhea and fever. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with a weakened immune system in particular can develop more severe illnesses with blood poisoning and meningitis. In pregnant women, the unborn child can be harmed – even without symptoms.
