Rooney out of England squad

Wayne Rooney, captain of Manchester United, has been left out of the list of summoned by Gareth Southgate, English coach, for the matches against Scotland and France, in which the first summons of Kieran Trippier, of Tottenham, stands out.

Capped 119 times and top scorer with 53 goals, Rooney, as planned and as happened for the previous games, is left out of the call after having played only fifteen league games as a starter this season and having been losing prominence in the team of Jose Mourinho, who this Wednesday was proclaimed champion of the Europa League, a match in which he played his last minutes.

Southgate maintains confidence in the young Marcus Rashford, also a Manchester United striker, a starter against Ajax, and who will not be in the next Under-21 European Championship.

Michael Keane, from Burnley, and Ross Barkley, from Everton, are also absent due to injury, while Kieran Trippier makes his debut with the senior team and returns Jack Butland, Stoke goalkeeper who has recovered from an injury suffered against Germany in March 2016.

England will face Scotland at Hampden Park on June 10 in a group F match of the qualifying phase for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and will visit France on June 13 in a friendly match that will be played in Saint Denis.
