Five things that Ochoa de Campos envies

OLYMPIC GAMES

Campos was one of the three players who exceeded the age limit that reinforced the squad led by Carlos de los Cobos at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. El Tri managed to get through the first round but was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Nigeria, which the dessert won the gold medal. For his part, Guillermo Ochoa was part of the Aztec team that failed in the CONCACAF Qualifying in 2008 and did not qualify for the Beijing Olympics.

AERIAL GAME

Despite his height of 1.85 meters, Ochoa has been the target of much criticism for his aerial game and various specialized media have pointed out that the America exporter has never managed to master this important aspect for any goalkeeper. For his part, Jorge, who was 1.68 meters tall, had an extraordinary technique and, above all, a great power to intervene in the dangerous plays that occurred in his area.

BEST FOOTWORK

Due to his great technique, Jorge was considered by many to be just another outfield player on the pitch. In fact, ‘Brody’ played as a striker in the First Division and scored 46 goals. On the other hand, Ochoa’s main strength is not exactly the game with his feet, however, he has currently managed to adapt to Gerardo Martino’s system of play.

RECOGNIZED WORLDWIDE AS ONE OF THE BEST

Prior to the 1994 World Cup in the United States, Jorge Campos was awarded by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics as the third best goalkeeper on the planet. In 2010, the same organization recognized Campos as the most outstanding Mexican goalkeeper of the last 25 years. For his part, Paco Memo has stood out internationally for his brilliant performances in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and in the 2018 Russia tournament.

ITS GREAT POPULARITY

During his time as a player, «Brody» was the first Mexican soccer player to appear in a commercial for the renowned American company Nike. According to the Mundo Ejecutivo portal, Campos has collaborated with many important companies and currently continues to enjoy great popularity due to his work as a television commentator. On the other hand, Guillermo is one of the most popular players in El Tri but he still hasn’t achieved Jorge’s status.
