Do you get a stamp in the bonus booklet despite a failed dental check-up?

Unnecessary visits to the dentist were discouraged during the Corona crisis. As a result, some people have gaps in their bonus booklet. However, this should not result in any disadvantages. There should be an exception for minors in particular.

Many people have given up preventive check-ups at the dentist in recent months due to the corona pandemic. So far it has been questionable what this means for your bonus booklet for the health insurance company. There is now a little more clarity here.

According to the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists (KZBV), children and young people who were unable to attend a check-up due to the restrictions in the first half of 2020 should not lose their full bonus entitlement. A recommendation from the Central Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV) to its member funds should ensure this, according to the KZBV.

Entry in the dentist bonus booklet ensures entitlement

The KZBV and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV-Spitzenverband) agree that people under 18 who have statutory health insurance and who were unable to visit the dentist for check-ups due to Corona in the first half of 2020 will receive a corresponding entry in their bonus booklet the next time they visit the practice. This ensures that the claim is received.

This rule does not apply to adults. In any case, you only have to have one check-up per year in order not to risk the right to subsidies. This date can also be observed in the course of the second half of 2020. Children and young people, on the other hand, need two bonus booklet stamps per calendar year.

Higher subsidies only with complete proof in the bonus booklet

If the bonus booklet is maintained without gaps over a certain period of time, you are entitled to higher health insurance subsidies for possible dentures – 20 percent more for five years without a break.

At the height of the Corona crisis, virologists had sometimes recommended postponing visits to the dentist that were not absolutely necessary. The German Dental Association (BZÄK) and the Association of Medical Professions had announced in mid-May that dental practices were again offering prophylaxis and dental treatments in full. The high hygiene and infection protection standards that were in place before the corona pandemic would be further strengthened.
