The State University of Maranhão (UEMA) published this Monday, August 30, the second call or first call for surpluses of the Selection Process for Access to Higher Education (PAES) 2021. In total, 316 candidates were approved.
Access the 2nd PAES 2021 call
Newly selected candidates must register between the 6th and 9th of September, from 9am to 11:30am and from 1:30pm to 5pm, at the respective course offices. The required documents are in the call file.
UEMA did not say when it will publish the third call. Classes for freshmen start on September 14th.
Entrance exam
PAES 2021 was held on July 4th and 5th. Of the 43,956 registered candidates, 24,487 were present and 19,469 were absent from Paes 2021.
Candidates prepared an essay and answered 44 objective questions distributed across the areas of Languages and Codes, Human Sciences, Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the tests were administered in a single stage to two groups of candidates according to their course option. This way, the application took place over two days to avoid crowding.
Vacancies
The PAES offer was 4,080 places at UEMA and 855 places at the State University of the Tocantina Region of Maranhão (UEMASUL).
The university allocates part of the opportunities to the Vacancy Reservation System. See the distribution:
- 10% – black students or students from indigenous communities who attended high school in public schools
- 5% – people with disabilities
- 20% – black candidates
