Currently, in BBrazil, two major environmental tragedies occurred, which shook the population. We witnessed the disastrous dam failures of the mining company Vale (Comma) of Mariana, in 2015, and of Brumadinho, in 2019. These melancholic events highlighted the complex situation in the country, in which, despite the legislation establishing punishments for environmental criminals, as well as regular inspections of risk areas, which is observed in The practice is government negligence and the immunization of large corporations. (Good intro paragraph)
According to article 225, item 3, of the current WBrazilian institution, companies and agents that harm the environment are subject to pre-established punishments. However, situations like that of the company Vale, (No comma) showed little government action in this regard, as it did not adequately punish the agents causing environmental crime. In this context, the consolidation of actions that could coerce these large companies does not occurmweakening the country’s situation.
Furthermore, the high participation of large corporations in the Brazilian GDP (Gross Domestic Product) encourages their bargaining power vis-à-vis the State, which is subject to the interests of these companies. If it does not comply with their wishes, the government is threatened with losing the investment of productive capital coming from them, as well as their departure from the territory, which would not only harm the GDP, but would also generate unemployment and could result in an economic crisis. (Reframe this idea). Therefore, these large corporations determine reasonable economic and environmental limits to their interests, bypassing legislation.
Given this difficulty in combating environmental disasters caused by the actions of large corporations in Brazil, solutions to the problem must be sought. To this end, the government can, for example, reinforce compliance with legislation, aiming, (No comma) thus providing greater security and control in relation to possible environmental disasters. Furthermore, it can also diversify state investments in order to reduce the dependence of the national GDP on large corporations and be able to impose legislation in a manner appropriate to them. Acting this way, (No comma) It will be possible to maintain, as presented in Jorge Ben Jor’s song, a tropical and beautiful country by nature (Restructure). (Restructure and further articulate the intervention proposal)
