The National High School Examination (And either) was created in 1998 with the objective of evaluating the performance of students enrolled in the last stage of basic education. Many changes were made to the exam and today it is one of the main means of admission to a higher education course.
Any student who is enrolled in high school can participate in Enem. However, students under the age of 18 who are not yet in their final year of high school must take the exam as a trainer.
This means that, in this case, the Enem is only done for self-assessment, and cannot be used to enroll in higher education access programs: sisu, pronounce and Fies. Therefore, the grades of trainee participants are released 60 days after the Enem result is released for students who are completing or have already completed high school.
In 2016, of the more than 8.6 million Enem participants, 1,344,060 signed up as a trainee, which represents 16% of the total.
Older than 18 years
Persons over 18 who have not completed their studies or are not enrolled in high school cannot enroll as trainers. In this case, you must first take the National Examination for the Certification of Youth and Adult Skills (Encceja) to complete high school.
Until the 2016 edition, it was possible to participate in Enem with the aim of obtaining a high school certification. According to the Ministry of Education (MEC), in the last edition, only 7.7% of the candidates who took the exam for this purpose achieved the minimum score.
