In this text I will make an exposition about knowledge, focusing on scientific knowledge and popular knowledge, their differences, similarities and the importance of obtaining scientific knowledge.
Knowledge is something that everyone needs, it is fundamental in human life, as it makes life more acceptable and effective.
Knowledge only becomes possible through interaction with reality.
Scientific knowledge aims to study and clarify the facts that occurred in the universe.
Acquiring knowledge is fundamental so that the individual is not oppressed, because in the same way that knowledge frees, it also oppresses.
Science is a set of knowledge about facts and aspects of reality, expressed through a precise and rigorous language. This knowledge must be collected in a programmed, systematic and thoughtful way, and then be submitted to evaluation and verification of its validity. Science deals with phenomena that occur in nature, ideal objects and cultural events.
Therefore, it is essential to know science, as it will help us to clearly understand the events of the universe, which are often difficult to understand. Without science, man would not be aware of himself and of the multiple events around him. However, as the individual gains knowledge, he frees himself from ignorance, and becomes the “master of the situation”.
However, knowledge is not the privilege of some, but of every human being. For man is the only being with the ability to think. We are thinking beings.
Unlike science, popular knowledge is intuitive, spontaneous, with a strong inclination towards errors, as it is not studied, analyzed and proven, for example: when we look at the sky and say that it will rain, there has been no study in relation to this statement, but it is known that it will probably rain, simply because the sky is covered with clouds.
Science has an explanation for this phenomenon. For this, first the phenomenon was studied, the information was collected to be analyzed and then confirmed.
The same does not happen with popular knowledge. The information that is transmitted has no theoretical basis. But there is something similar between the two types of knowledge, the way in which the phenomenon is narrated is often the same.
The phenomenon of the cloudy sky, for example, the scientist has a whole study proven that after it becomes cloudy it will probably rain. In popular knowledge there is no proof that it will rain, but it usually rains after the sky is cloudy, so this becomes a popular truth, which will be passed on to other generations.
Another example that can be cited is the fact that a person calls another “hysterical”, for the simple fact that he is yelling at someone. This is a term proper to scientific psychology. There was no concern to define the word used, and even so it was not understood by the other. We can even be close to science, most of the time we don’t even know it.
Finally, it is necessary to obtain knowledge, and above all scientific knowledge, in order to have a true vision of the things and events that surround us.
