Mandy: the cursed doll as old as it is disturbing

One day Mandy was adorable porcelain dollwe are sure of it, but time does not pass in vain and, although we do not know what could have happened to it, it seems that something dark took root in it, since paranormal phenomena have not stopped following it and today it is considered the «most evil antiquity in Canada «.

It is estimated that Mandy was created between 1910 and 1920, perhaps in England or Germany, due to the type of manufacturing.

Be that as it may, it took more than 70 years until it saw the light of day again. It was in 1991, when Mandy was practically bouncing against the desk of Ruth Stubbs, the then curator of the Quesnel Museum, in British Columbia (Canada). Her owner released her there, visibly distressed, ensuring that she doll had belonged to her great-grandmother and that due to her unfortunate condition, he wanted to get rid of her and prevent his daughter from becoming fond of her and playing with her.

Ruth Stubbs accepted the doll and kept it. Alone. Apparently, not only Mandy’s appearance, with her cracks and bruises, was somewhat disturbing, as the curator declared: «There was something terrible about her, she conveyed the feeling of a real child terrified«. However, as a good professional, she attributed this distressing sensation to the appearance of the piece and proceeded to prepare it for an examination in which they would evaluate its state of conservation. To do this, she wrapped Mandy in plastic and left her on her work table in a common area of the museum. Can you guess what happened when Ruth’s classmates saw her? Each of them stated how chilling their presence was to them. This would be just a small warning of what would happen later in the museum, after the arrival of such a curious doll.

Once it was confirmed that there were no insects in it, Mandy was ready for the photo session of rigor, that all the museum’s pieces go through before being presented to the public. No, nothing supernatural happened during this session and the images were taken to the laboratory to reveal. When the photographer and her partner entered the apartment the next day, they were shocked: all the stationery in the room was lying on the floor in any way. But Mandy’s dislike of snapshots didn’t end there. Ruth explained that that same day she entered the photographer’s office, extremely pale, apparently while she was developing other photographs she could notice a He sighed next to her ear and then an object fell from the shelf. I was terrified.

The museum photographer is not the only one who has experienced Mandy’s rejection of cameras, whether due to shyness or not, every time they try to take a photograph or record it on video, who is on the other side of the lens, feels like the cursed doll doesn’t want to be immortalized. There are even those who have experienced malfunctions on their devices only in the room she is in!

Mandy kept receiving attention for her strange «effects,» so Ruth contacted a trusted retired conservative, from Surrey, who had a great sensitivity with objects. He claimed to be able to feel certain «vibrations» coming from them. When he touched Mandy he claimed that she had been able to «see» a long history of abuse and that he had felt very cold. Could he be related to one of Mandy’s former owners?

Knowing this, Ruth contacted Mandy’s owner again. Apparently the doll had been confined for years in a basement, from which they could You can hear a baby moaning and crying some nights. When the owner came down to see what was happening there was no baby, only occasionally did she find that the window was open, letting in the wind. Once he got rid of Mandy, none of this happened again.

Ruth didn’t know whether to give credence to the crying story, but you know what? She assures that, since she received Mandy, she has the feeling that now, in the museum, she is happier.

Of course, it is said that she cannot share a display case with other dolls, since her companions appear damaged the next day…

And you do you think? According to Ruth, although she does not believe in enchanted objects, such as a cursed doll, she does believe that it is possible for an object to become imbued with certain very intense experiences. Do you think it can happen? Share with us your theory!
