Do you know the chilling legend of the Bridge of the Goblins?
The legend of the Bridge of the Duendes has its origins in Puebla, Mexico. There, the villagers are warned from a very young age of the dangers they may face if they approach a mysterious place located in the center of the mountains. But what happens in that place? Legend has it that little goblins drag peopleregardless of gender or age, even under a bridge.
The people who are dragged under this bridge they can hardly come out again. Only one peasant achieved such daring, so thanks to him we can learn a little more about what these goblins do to their victims.
The story goes that this man returned from the town festivals a little drunk. When he arrived at his house he realized that he did not have firewood, so he quickly went out in search of some pieces of wood. As it was getting dark, The man hurried when he suddenly saw a huge chicken. She was surprised, since all her neighbors used to lock up the animals for fear of coyote attacks, but without giving it much thought she decided to take her and thus have an appetizing chicken for dinner.
The chicken was much more elusive than the man imagined, so he chased it through the bushes. When he could realizethe chicken was standing right at one end of the terrifying bridge. Scared to death, the man tried to run, but it was too late. His body began to go numb and he felt himself being dragged into the darkness against his will.
Between laughter and whispering, the man managed to see how The chicken transformed into a small man of less than one meter, who gave him a look full of hatred. While the man heard screams, cries and moans of pain, he managed to regain control of his body for an instant. He then crossed himself and said the following words:
“Our Father, if my flesh is for the demons, at least let my soul be with you in paradise.”
The enraged creatures tried to pounce on the peasant. However, he – thanks to the strength that the words he had just spoken had given him – managed to run with all his strength and escape from under the evil bridge. The next day the man woke up believing that he had had a terrible nightmare, but later he would realize that everything had been very real.
His legs were completely covered in painful scratches and bloody, and when he got up he could see how a path of chicken feathers bathed in blood He was heading to the “Puente de los Elves”.
